Community Open Day – 23/07/2016
It was decided by the committee to open up the allotments to the community. This provided members of the local community the opportunity to visit, to have a drink and something to eat and view the allotment site with guided tours by many allotment plot holders of the crops they are growing. The day itself turned out to be very busy and we were surprised by how many members of the local community showed interest. Quite a few of these visitors at the same time put their name down for a plot, should one become available. This has meant over the last few years we have had a very healthy waiting list. Plot holders enjoyed the day also with a few beverages and a BBQ at the end of the day.
Coffee Mornings – 2016/17/18
Woodley Allotment Association formed in 2012 and since then has relied on partial rent from tenants, this income is relatively small but allows us to ensure all plots and plot holders are protected with public liability insurance along with membership to the National Allotment Society. This leaves very little funds left to make improvements to the allotments site. Thanks to Mr Eric Brown our honorary president we have been able to hold coffee mornings in Woodley Civic Hall since 2016. A small but dedicated team of allotment plot holders come together to put on Tea & Coffee along with an assortment of homemade cakes and biscuits provided by allotment plot holders. This gives the opportunity for the local community to come and join us and discus all things growing. We have been amazed each time we have held an event how many of the local community have joined us and the interest they have shown on what having an allotment is all about. This has enabled Woodley Allotment Association to raise much needed funds to continue to improve the allotment site.
